Although it is already December the women from Chyangsar and the surrounding villages have gathered some vegetables and seeds. For the first time there was an exchange during the vegetable festival and also small prizes which were handed over by Namgyal Jungbu Sherpa. The aim is to promote the diversity of vegetable varieties and, above all, to preserve local seeds. The temptation is too great by the “miracle seeds” of large corporations, which are partly distributed as “support” and lead away from organic agriculture.
In any case, Roots for Life will continue to work on biological diversity and organise the festival again next year.
Many thanks to all local guests of honour as well as Namaraj Silwal from SWI for the participation, Fair Styria for the sustainable support of the farm, Kusang Tamang and Sushila Kadhka for the valuable work on site.
