Our project partner Opportunity Village runs the Good Shepherd Children's Home care centre in Pokhara for children and young people living on the margins of society. Here they are allowed to live and are cared for until they have completed their school education. The girls who live here are affected by sexual violence, human trafficking, child labour or are at high risk. Many have lost their parents or have been abandoned by them. At Good Shepherd Children's Home they can do what children do, develop and shape their talents. The goal is to make them ready for society to exist as individuals in their own right.
Since the 2015 earthquake, many girls from the destroyed villages have come to Pokhara in the hope of earning money there. Due to a lack of education, they are often left with only prostitution. The contact point of the Opportunity Village Nepal supports these girls in finding a more suitable training place and in stabilising their professional situation. In addition to mentoring and coaching these girls, prevention ambassadors against sexual violence are also being trained. In future, they will carry out education in the villages on a wide variety of women's issues.
